General Bridges House Duntroon — Heritage Restoration

This is the largest and most significant of the Duntroon houses group. Bridges House is the residence of the Chief of the Australian Defence Force. It is an imposing two-storey house combining elements of Federation, Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau styles surrounded by mature landscaped grounds.

We have done numerous alterations and additions over 15 years in response to changing conservation policies and the functional requirements of a succession of occupants. This includes sensitive alterations to provide functional family living, kitchen and bathroom spaces; full interior refurbishment including the restoration of significant fabric and finishes, painting, wallpapers, carpets, lighting and mechanical services; a new double garage and outdoor pergola. This work has been undertaken within the constraints of a heritage management plan, whereby any impact on heritage forms and fabric is carefully limited.
