Philip Leeson Architects were commissioned to design the recent refurbishment of the National Convention Centre foyer, back-of-house staff areas and amenities upgrade. Through the use of some beautiful recycled timbers from Thor’s Hammer, and rich carpet selections, the foyer now exudes a warmth and intimacy despite the large scale of the space. Columns have been wrapped with timber battens, and small niche with timber ‘wave’ creates an intimate space to gather under. Philip Leeson Architects also closely considered the furniture selection with a series of formal and informal pieces, which complement the interior palette.
The project was delivered on a very tight timeframe, a process which builder Monarch Building Solutions managed very well. Many of the timber panels were fabricated by them off site for ease and speed of installation.
